Rocks have always been a fascination for us humans. They appear to be permanent. We feel like they are the only thing that will stay forever. Even though I know they won’t, even though I know rocks don’t stay forever, I prefer disagreeing with it for the sake of my mind.

We know mountains are continuously eroding and changing shapes with time, but in the eyes of an observer, they appear to be permanent. We know how the Earth’s crust is evolving continuously, but if we compare the lifetime of rocks with us humans, they are permanent. Rocks are permanent for thousands of years at least and ancient builders understood this very well.

The ancient builders built palaces, pyramids, and so many other structures, with rocks/stones. They might have not known how rocks, too, decay. For them, rocks were eternal.

In the modern era of science, we know that they aren’t. We know that nothing is eternal, nothing is permanent. Still, for centuries, we have made monumental structures with stones that will last longer than we could ever live. All the things we love, we try to make them permanent. We try to make them immune to time. We don’t want them to fade away, ever! We love diamonds so much, we say, “a diamond is forever”.
